Common Power

Common Power works to foster, support, and amplify a democracy that is just and inclusive. We provide creative on-ramps to civic fieldwork, expand the people engaging in and benefiting from it, and sustain this effort by investing in the next generation of leaders.

We catalyze our work through education and bolster a public that takes action in support of a just and inclusive democracy. By fostering a community in which people learn from, support, and grow with one another, we identify and invest in young, diverse leaders and promote them into leadership positions within Common Power and beyond. The Institute for Common Power

The Institute for Common Power is a non-profit educational branch of Common Power, dedicated to illuminating undervalued, underappreciated, and pivotal aspects of our collective history. We catalyze people to action through experiential learning opportunities such as workshops, lectures, courses, learning tours, and national educational events designed to foster, sustain, and expand what should be the most common power in American democracy — the right to vote. We also seek to lead by example as we guide learning and implement programs and initiatives devoted to creating social and structural change.

Ensuring a vote for all is essential to dismantling systems of injustice and creating equitable healthcare, living wages, decent housing, affordable education, and so much more. We also seek to lead by example as we guide learning and implement programs and initiatives devoted to social change. The Institute for Common Power is wholly dedicated to education to action as a foundation for social justice and inclusive democracy in the United States.

Action Academy

Action Academy is our virtual summer program for Gen Zs that focuses on the historiography of voting rights in America, and what systems expand and erode the democratic process. Participants engage in a combination of action-learning activities, simulations, discussions, team exercises, lectures, film, case studies, and training in civic fieldwork and GOTV efforts. The program is led by a collection of next-generation leaders, Action Academy graduates, Academic Scholars, and industry professionals.

Hundreds of college-age students each year have participated in Action Academy. Through their connections, they have grown the overall Common Power Future Community to encompass volunteer Action Days, community-building social events, and the creation of Common Power Squads that support national Common Power fieldwork efforts. Common Power Future individuals seed the future of fieldwork and leadership positions within the organization.
